DSLR cameras or digital single-lens reflex camera are heavy, big, and expensive when compared to compact cameras. But that does not mean that compact cameras are better than DSLR cameras and there are reasons for that. The photo quality, flexibility, and speed that a DSLR camera gives are not there with ordinary cameras.

There are many advantages of digicam and one of the most obvious benefits is the number of megapixels that come with these cameras. This is the fact with most of the digi cameras. But that does not mean that the picture quality with these cameras would be better. Megapixels do play a role but they are not completely responsible for the overall quality of the picture. The reason for the better picture quality with digicam is the bigger image sensors. The image sensors with ordinary cameras are small and the million pixels get crammed on them when the picture is taken.

The camera operation speed is another advantage with digi cameras. There are many parameters that determine the speed of the camera. The speed of the camera focus is of utmost importance. When a picture is about to be clicked the focus must be in place as soon as possible. Irrespective of the circumstances, a digi camera would have much better focus speed when compared to compact cameras. There are many problems with compact cameras when it comes to focus in low-light conditions. But that is not the case with digital cameras. Low lights and correct focus would never be an issue with digital cameras. The other aspect relating to a camera’s speed is the frame rate or the number of frames that a camera can take within a second. Digital cameras are very good with sequence photos and the focus would rearrange itself even when the subject is constantly moving. Taking photos with the subject constantly moving is not possible with compact cameras.

Flexibility or the ability of the camera to tackle a range of situations is another benefit with DSLR cameras. The options as far as lenses and flash is concerned are huge with DSLR cameras. That is not so with non-digital cameras. Non-digital cameras do come with zoom in properties but the lens quality is not that great and cannot be used for professional purposes. That is not the case with DSLR cameras and most of the professional photographers use these digital cameras for their photography needs.
